  • deutsch [1978:] Die Textilarbeiter in den USA spürten häufig zuerst die Auswirkungen wirtschaftlicher Rezessionen. Nach dem 2. Weltkrieg hatten sich viele von ihnen den Gewerkschaften angeschlossen. Die Unternehmer wurden von Politikern aus den Südstaaten mit der Aussicht auf günstigere Steuersätze und dem Hinweis auf die geringere Streikmentalität der dortigen Arbeiterschaft dazu gebracht, ihre veralteten Betriebe in den Nordstaaten zu schließen und neue im Süden zu gründen. Hierdurch verloren 250.000 Textilarbeiter ihren Arbeitsplatz und sahen einer ungewissen Zukunft als Hilfsarbeiter entgegen. Das Städtchen Aragon lebte von einem solchen Textilbetrieb und wurde nach dessen Schließung beinahe zur Geisterstadt. (Notes 'Folk Friends I')
