Put Another Log On The Fire

  • (Shel Silverstein)

Put another log on the fire
Cook me up some bacon and some beans
Go out to the car and change the tyre
Wash my socks and sew my old blue jeans
Fill my pipe and then go fetch my slippers
And boil me up another pot of tea
Then put another log on the fire, babe
And come and tell me why you're leaving me

Don't I let you wash the car on Sunday
Don't I warn you when you're getting fat
Ain't I gonna take you fishing with me some day
You know a man can't love a woman more than that
Ain't I always nice to your kid sister
And don't I take her driving every night
Come and sit here by my feet 'cos' I love you when you're sweet
And you know it isn't feminine to fight

    Repeat 1

    (as sung by Iain MacKintosh)

Susannes Folksong-Notizen

  • [1997:] Shel DIDN'T write Put another Log on the Fire -- that's Tompall Glazer. (Dick Greenhaus, www.mudcat.org, 21 Aug)

  • [1998:] Tompall Glazer is a country singer/songwriter, one of the lesser known members of the "outlaws," a group which includes Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson, and which has avoided pop-jazz-new age tendencies in country music, preferring traditional harmonic structures and instrumentation. This totally off the top of my head description of the outlaws comes from occasional references I have seen and heard over the past 20 years, and for which I can produce no documentation. (BSeed, www.mudcat.org, 17 Sep)

  • [1999:] [...] registered as having been written by Shel (alone) and performed by Tompall Glazer. (Jeri, www.mudcat.org, 16 May)
